Dr. Matthew C. Schaffer is a board certified family physician with an additional Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in sports medicine. He was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area and graduated from Hampton High School. Dr. Schaffer then attended the University of Richmond, where he graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Biology. He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA. Following medical school, Dr. Schaffer returned to Pittsburgh to complete residency training at the renowned UPMC St. Margaret Family Medicine Residency Program, where he was elected chief resident in his final year. Residency training was followed by a year of additional specialty instruction in sports medicine through the UPMC St. Margaret Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program. Dr. Schaffer sees patients at Renaissance Family Practice-UPMC, Glenshaw Division and at Burke & Bradley Orthopedics. He was recently appointed as the school district and team physician for the Fox Chapel Area School District. He is involved in medical education as a faculty member of the UPMC St. Margaret Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Schaffer has received several awards for exceptional teaching and has lectured locally on topics related to family medicine and sports medicine. Outside of medicine, Dr. Schaffer enjoys running, soccer, music, trying new foods, and spending time with his family.
